Your Hair & The Effects of Sun Damage

Most people know to wear sunscreen to protect their skin from the damaging effects of the sun but what about your locks?  When hair is exposed to sunlight, a naturally occurring form of hydrogen peroxide forms in the hair, causing hair to lighten.  Unfortunately, the sun can do more than just fade your color. UV rays can also cause damage to your hair much like a blow dryer, flat iron, curling iron, etc.  Damage to your hair can cause your hair to look dull and not to mention frizzy or straw-like and nobody wants that.  Lastly, anytime you are outside your hair should be protected against environmental aggressors.  What are these “environmental aggressors” you ask?  Well they can show up in several different forms such as smoke, pollution, or even harsh weather.  All of these things contain oxidants that cause hair color to fade.

So what can you do to keep your color vibrant for as long as possible?  Well, Aveda makes two wonderful products to take care of all these potential problems:

Color Conserve Daily Coaveda-product1lor Protect

This product has TONS of benefits!  First, of all it is going to seal in your color for 6 WEEKS!  It also contains natural UV filters, specifically cinnamon bark and wintergreen oils, that protect against UV damage, fading and lightening.  The green tea extract protects your hair against everyday environmental aggressors.  Lastly, it is going to leave you with nice, shiny hair using organic baobab, castor and sunflower oils!

Sun Care Hair Veil

Just a light mist of this after you have finished styling gives you added UV protection along with a little sunscreen for your scalp.  It has a great citrus aroma and also adds a little shine.  Keep in mind, a little goes a long way.

Both of these products are ideal for summer, however, it is necessary to use protection against the sun all year long!
